Ron de Bruijn

I am an Assistant Professor in the Design for Precision Engineering (DPE) group of the Control Systems Technology (CST) section, Department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).

My research focuses on design principles for precision mechatronics, with a strong emphasis on high-performance hardware design and its integration in closed-loop mechatronic systems. A central theme is the mechatronic integration of mechanical systems, making traditionally passive components actively contribute to system performance while maintaining minimal complexity. Much of this work is done in close collaboration with industrial partners in the semiconductor, scientific instrumentation, and medical technology domains.

  • PhD 路 2025 PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)

    Thesis: Design and mechatronic architecture of a piezoelectric wafer stage for electron beam inspection systems, in close collaboration with ASML. Combined precision mechanical design, piezoelectric actuation, system thinking and control. Resulted in 3 patent publications.

  • MSc 路 Summa Cum Laude MSc in Electromechanical Engineering Technology, KU Leuven (Geel campus)

    Graduation project: "Cost Effective Design of the Pellicle Hardware", in collaboration with ASML. Developed a novel, more cost-effective hardware concept for pellicle integration in lithography systems. Resulted in a patent publication and awarded Best MSc Thesis in Electromechanical Engineering Technology.
